Shaw and Sharon Yount are medical doctors with a heart for missions. Shaw, after finishing a Family Practice residency in 1986, went to Kenya to serve as a missionary there for 4 years under the organization World Medical Missions and then served with Africa Evangelical Fellowship in Rusitu, Zimbabwe. During the process of raising his support he met his wife, Sharon, in 1991. Sharon, who finished a Pediatrics residency in 1986, was serving on the faculty of the University of Illinois School of Medicine, and had been studying missions at Wheaton. Shaw and Sharon were married and served together at the medical mission in Rusitu, Zimbabwe for the next 8 years, during which time they also had their two children, Jenna (12/95) and Michaila (2/98). In 2000 they felt the Lord calling them to the work at Hospital Loma de Luz with Cornerstone in Honduras, completed a year of language school, and are now serving full-time on the field at Loma de Luz.
Here is a message from Shaw and Sharon: “Our desire is that the medical and surgical work will draw many to Hospital Loma de Luz. In addition to helping with their physical needs, we hope for all to hear well the gospel message while here, day in and day out. Certainly some, if not many, will be those who might not be willing to go to a church, although willing to go to a hospital in a time of need. Hopefully the Lord will draw many to His Son through the hospital ministry, and the church in this area will benefit in the process. The concept is simple, but the enemy is against it, and we need your prayers to accomplish any fruit here. Please pray for all of us and the work we are attempting, as well as for the church in Honduras, especially right here. – Yours in Christ, Shaw Yount.”
Shaw is from Winston-Salem, NC, and Sharon is from Shreveport, LA. Please, as Shaw says, lift them up in your prayers – prayer is vital.
