Dr. Don Rumbaugh served as a flight surgeon in the USAF before establishing a family practice in New Jersey. While there, Don launched Team Healthcare, a short term mission organization, which continues to send teams to various parts of Central and South America and Africa. One of those trips brought the whole family to Honduras in 2000 and the Rumbaughs came to serve at Loma de Luz for the last half of 2002. With numerous trips to Loma de Luz in the subsequent years of preparation, the Rumbaughs returned full time to Honduras in the fall of 2005. Don works with Hospital Loma de Luz and the surrounding communities in a variety of roles. As Missionary Coordinator of the Chaplaincy, Don gives oversight and direction to the spiritual ministries for patients and staff alike and encourages the hospital’s spiritual outreach in the surrounding region. His work falls into the categories of evangelism and discipleship, encouraging and providing education in over twenty village schools, community development and meeting social needs through micro-enterprise loans and “learn to earn” programs, house church plants in mountain communities, training nationals for cross-cultural ministry with the goal of turning Honduras from a mission field to a mission force, health care and health education in remote regions via school physicals, house calls, and classroom lessons. As director of Honduras Fronteras, the Frontiers Mission base in Honduras, Dr. Don networks with other Latino ministry bases, striving to bring the gospel light into darkened regions of the world.
Suzanne administers the MATCH program (Missions and Academic Training Center in Honduras), through which the Rumbaughs receive and host interns for missions training, service, and education. MATCH also offers high school academic courses for missionary students in Honduras through a residential co-op.
Amy, 9-19-94, participates in the Honduras Mundial discipleship classes and outreaches, and she frequently helps lead worship for the community.
The three adult Rumbaugh children now live in the US and Middle East.
