Mark and Heidi Merritt whose first short term mission trip was to Japan in 1999 participated in six short-term mission trips to Honduras and one to Bolivia before moving to Honduras in June 2006. When the Merritts felt God was calling them to full-time missionary work in 2004, they learned through the Finishers organization that Hospital Loma de Luz was looking for a family physician, and after visiting, decided that that was where God wanted them to serve. They sold their home, headed for a year of language school in Costa Rica and moved to Honduras in June 2006. Mark is a Family Physician who is also involved in Pastor Training and Bible studies for Honduran men. Heidi is organizing and training the x-ray department at the hospital — her real passion is discipleship. She is working with Honduran women and teaching Sunday School for teenagers at a Honduran church.

The Merritts who are from Richmond, VA have three sons: Adam & wife Izzie and their two children live in Sacramento, CA; Ryan & wife Sylvia live in Tucson, AZ and Jake, who recently graduated from Cedarville Univ., lives in Cincinnati, OH.
