For: Group Leader to inform all Visitors
As you consider
coming to Hospital Loma de Luz, please be aware that people with medical
problems should weigh the risks and benefits. At
present, we are not able to care for advanced emergencies. In addition, the Honduran hospital system
does not provide care equivalent to that available in the
Those who should particularly weigh the risks and benefits are: (1) Pregnant women (2) Persons taking medications that alter immune response, or ability to fight infection. Such medications include cortisone, prednisone, methotrexate, and azothioprine. (3) Persons with heart disease such as angina, lung disease such as asthma, brittle diabetes, or other chronic diseases, as well as those taking blood thinners like coumadin or heparin. Please consult your personal doctor about all health conditions.
We are in a malaria area and recommend malaria prophylaxis. Please obtain this from your personal doctor. Also ask him for a prescription for traveler’s diarrhea to carry with you. If you are taking medicine to reduce your acid level, your doctor may want you to take a prophylactic diarrhea medicine.
Bring sufficient medicine in your carry-on bag and some extra. At times visitors have been stranded in Balfate for prolonged periods due to heavy rains with flooding.
If you have any questions, please contact the Cornerstone office (Contact information is above).
